Which plants are suitable for the sunniest and warmest parts of your garden? There are many garden plants which like a combination of sun and shade. But plants which can withstand the sun all day must be selected carefully. Especially if the plant is in a pot, the root system can get very hot in the sun. Few garden plants can withstand this. We have listed the three most beautiful and versatile options here.

The Japanese maple

The magnificent Japanese maple is known for its unusual leaf shape and impressive colours. There are various colours available, with the red being by far the most popular. These red varieties turn a shade darker in the autumn and are then truly a feast for the eyes! And the great thing about this exotic-looking tree is that it is native to our climate.

There are many varieties of Japanese Maple available. So there is always one that is suitable for your garden or even balcony. There are species that can be kept as shrubs and species that can grow up to 10 metres high! By far the majority of species will do fine in full sun. In fact, a Japanese Maple needs a lot of sunlight to retain its red colours. If the plant gets too little sun, the colours will fade.

A small comment is in order here. There are a small number of Japanese Maple species that are not suitable for a location in which the sun shines all day. Pay attention to this when you buy them. They require a location where the sun does not reach the leaves in the afternoon. If this does happen, the leaves may burn. This is certainly the case with young trees. If the trees are a little older, the problem is already less.

However, the vast majority of species will adore the sun. Care does not require much work. A Japanese Maple does well in the full soil or in a pot. Because it grows slowly and has a nice shape of its own, pruning is rarely necessary.
